More than a sport, or even a game, rowing is a discipline that teaches teamwork, camaraderie, and the benefits of hard work and persistence as well as self-reliance. The Sonoma Crew and the Ninth Oar have developed a partnership that is largely self-reliant and draws only a portion of its operating budget from the Associated Students of Sonoma State University. The majority of the yearly funding for the team is drawn from athlete dues and fundraising collected from generous donors. The Ninth Oar seeks to develop financial instruments to supplement and increase the yearly operating budget for the team and to assist oarsmen as they participate in the oldest and greatest of intercollegiate sports.

There are several options for supporting the Sonoma State University Crew:
